Ben Hughes is a full time consultant urological surgeon who is resident in Jersey.He has professional links with many of the major urology centres in the UK.

He graduated from the University of Birmingham Medical School in 2002 having completed a BSc in Physiology at Sheffield University in 1997. Following his basic surgical training rotations at Epsom and St Helier Hospitals in Surrey he spent 1 year as a research fellow at St Georges Hospital in London. This and other research has led to several publications in high quality peer-reviewed clinical journals and national and international presentations. He has maintained a strong academic interest, has recently written two book chapters and has acted as a reviewer for the British Journal of Urology International.

He was selected for the higher surgical training in urology programme in East Anglia in 2008. He spent the majority of this 5 year rotation in tertiary referral teaching hospitals (Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge and the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital in Norwich) developing his subspecialty interest in treating patients with urinary tract stones. He is also extensively trained in diagnostic general urology, and general urological surgery including prostate cancer diagnosis, and endoscopic (telescopic) surgery for diseases such as bladder cancer, and benign prostatic enlargement causing urinary difficulties.

He was awarded his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (Urology) in 2012 and was appointed to the post of consultant urological surgeon at Jersey General Hospital in September 2013.

He is a member of the British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS), the BAUS Section of Endourology, The European Association of Urology, and The Royal Society of Medicine.

He is married with 3 young children, is a keen golfer and playing member of the MCC.
